SCIENTIFIC
Garnet refers to a group of silicate minerals with a general chemical structure of X₃Y₂(SiO₄)₃. Common varieties used in jewelry include almandine, pyrope, and spessartine. Garnets form under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions in metamorphic and igneous rocks. They have a Mohs hardness of approximately 6.5–7.5, making them suitable for durable adornment. Their deep red color typically results from iron and manganese within the crystal structure.

HISTORICAL
Garnet beads and jewelry have been found in Bronze Age graves across Europe and Asia. Ancient Egyptians used garnets in inlays and decorative ornaments, while Romans carved them into signet rings and seals. During the Migration Period (around the 4th–7th centuries CE), garnet cloisonné jewelry became a marker of elite warrior identity across Europe.
