Because of their durability and distinctive banding, agates were commonly used for amulets, seals, and personal adornment. SCIENTIFIC
Green agate is a microcrystalline variety of quartz (SiO₂) belonging to the chalcedony group. It forms when silica-rich fluids slowly deposit within cavities of volcanic or sedimentary rock, producing layered or banded structures. Its green coloration results from trace minerals or inclusions within the silica matrix. Agate has a Mohs hardness of approximately 6.5–7, making it suitable for carving, beadwork, and long-term wear. Its durability and ability to take a fine polish made it widely used in ornamental traditions across cultures.

HISTORICAL
Agate artifacts have been discovered in ancient Mesopotamian seals, Roman jewelry, and South Asian bead workshops dating back several millennia. Gujarat in western India became one of the most important historical centers of agate bead production, supplying stones to long-distance trade networks. Through maritime exchange in the Indian Ocean, agate beads traveled widely into Southeast Asia. In many societies, these stones became integrated into local adornment traditions and heirloom collections passed through generations.
