YOOPERLITE
LIWANAG SA DILIM
(Light in the Dark)
INTERNATIONAL
Yooperlite is the trade name for syenite rocks containing fluorescent sodalite, discovered along the shores of Lake Superior in Michigan, USA in 2017. Under ultraviolet (UV) light, the sodalite within the stone glows bright orange against a gray matrix.
Mineralogically, yooperlite is a syenite rock (an intrusive igneous rock similar to granite but low in quartz) that contains fluorescent sodalite. References consistent with materials used by the note that:
*The glow is caused by the fluorescent properties of sodalite
*It is visible only under UV light
*The stone itself is not self-luminous
*It is primarily ornamental
Yooperlite gained popularity due to its dramatic fluorescence and the modern phenomenon of UV beach stone hunting.
Symbolically (non-scientific), it is associated with:
*Hidden truth
*Inner illumination
*Discovery
*Finding value in overlooked places
